It breaks my heart to post this, but my wife and I have decided we need to find Dahmer a new home. A little bit about Dahmer - Our friend rescued Dahmer's mama when she was pregnant. He was the only kitten in the litter, and was born with a staph infection and wasn't likely to make it. He pulled through, however, and we adopted him when he was weaned. He's been raised around other cats and dogs, and LOVES both. He wasn't raised with children however, and we don't think he should go to a home with young children because he can get over-stimulated when playing or being petted for a long time and may use his claws. He's been an indoor cat his ... (Read More)whole life, but has had access to outdoors on a harness/leash on occasion. The reason we need to find him a home is because while we love Dahmer very much, after a year with us he just doesn't seem happy here, at all. He's a particularly high energy cat. He needs a LOT of mental stimulation, and even though we make sure to exercise him every day and have even taught him to do a couple of tricks, 'sit' and 'shake', he spends all of his time looking for ways to get outside, or getting into things that are dangerous, and at this point has begun antagonizing my senior cat to play to the point that it is affecting my senior cats health. We live in the city, so we can't allow him to go outside and explore safely, and at the same time, while we do our best to give him the stimulation he needs and craves, I work full-time and my wife has health problems and we feel we aren't able to provide him with what he needs to be happy. Ideally, I think a home where he can SAFELY have access to roaming outdoors (not in the city) would be really beneficial to him, or even a very large home where he has plenty of room to explore and roam. He needs people who are active and don't get tired of playing with him. He's a very sweet and affectionate kitty, too. He loves to sleep with us at night and he loves to 'talk'. This is a really hard decision, but we want HIM to be happy, and he just isn't here. We're in NO hurry to place him, we just want the perfect home where he can be a free spirit like he craves! If you think he's a good fit for you, please email or text me. I'd love to tell you more about him. Please no phone calls, I work during the day and will not be able to answer. (Less)
