Animal ID: Maggie Courtesy PostMaggie Courtesy Post (female)

Maine Coon Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Maggie is a beautiful, 2 year-old Maine Coon/DLH mix with a glorious long tail and mostly grey fur, highlighted with splashes of cream and white just to give her a bit of a Dilute Tortie aura. She is an energetic and social girl who loves to play and will keep diving and jumping at a sparkly wand toy as long as you have the energy to keep flinging it about. When her human needs a break, she also enjoys a good catnip toy to rough up on her own. After playtime, she will happily sit next to you with a paw on you (just in case she needs you to move that toy again) and purr away. She adores having her chin, face, and ears rubbed and will ... (Read More)practically push you over with head bumps when greeting you after being apart for a while. Maggie is great with other friendly cats and has always been a loving big sister to younger kitties that she has shared space with at the humane society. She will also be great as her forever family's one and only kitty, as she will soak up as much attention as she can get, then be content and happy to spend her alone time lounging about in a sunny spot. Maggie will be a beautiful, fun, and loving addition to her new family! Maggie has recently recovered from a spell of eating too little, which led to an issue with her liver. She has completely bounced back, with all of her blood work normal, and is healthy and eating again. Maggie is a social eater, meaning she likes company and a little play time while she is eating. Because kitties who have had eating issues in the past may be prone to have them again, Maggie will need a home in which her forever family will be committed to monitoring her eating and weight to make sure she stays healthy. Maggie is spayed and up-to-date on her vaccinations, and she has tested negative for FeLV/FIV. She always uses her litter box like a lady. Maggie is located at the Humane Society of Fairfax County, in Fairfax, VA. She will be available for adoption on or about March 31, 2015. If you are interested in adopting her, and live within an hour's drive of Fairfax, VA, please contact the humane society at pets@hsfc.org or call 703-385-7387. Animal ID: Icky Picasso Courtesy PostIcky Picasso Courtesy (male)

Maine Coon Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Needs Vaccinations

And the Oscar goes to: Icky Picasso, for how handsome he looks in a tuxedo (he's wearing Armani, of course!), his super interesting name, and for his stellar performance as the fun-loving star of his family's household. I-Picasso is 7 years young, still very active, and loves, loves, loves to play. Wand toys are best for this fella, as he can get quite vigorous during a good play session. He would adore a home in which he gets lots of attention and play time with his people. He is also super friendly and loves to sit on his humans' lap. When he has met all of his social obligations for the day, I-Picasso enjoys some peaceful alone ... (Read More)time. Like most Maine Coons/mixes, I-Picasso likes to stay busy, working on projects with his humans, and wants to be right in the middle of the action. He is always eager to 'help' when the broom comes out, pouncing on it to help propel it across the floor. I-Picasso also enjoys a good paddle in water, as many Maine Coons do. This energetic, furry ball of fun will brighten up his new home with his dashing good looks and silly antics, and be a loving and devoted addition to his new family. I-Picasso enjoys the company of children who know to be gentle with him. He has not experienced the company of other cats and dogs. He has excellent litter box manners and always uses his scratching post to keep his manicure in tip-top shape and red carpet ready! Icky Picasso is neutered, and will need a routine vet visit once adopted to bring him UTD on his vaccines. He is currently located in Virginia Beach, VA. To apply to adopt Icky Picasso, please contact his caregiver, Ms. Rock, at fornaturalbirth@gmail.com or call 757-202-7548, anytime. (Less)

Maine Coon Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Needs Vaccinations

Our beautiful Maine Coon mix kitty is looking for a new home! Icky Picasso is a friendly indoor/outdoor cat who loves to sit on your lap while you watch tv (as long as he's in the mood). He's 7 yrs old, in good health, & absolutely gorgeous! Icky's always sharply dressed in his tuxedo with white gloves & shoes. You'll love his curly haired belly! Wait until you hear the great story behind his name! In VB but willing to travel for the right match. He's fixed & has grown up around kids. We've taught both girls to be gentle with him & he's done pretty well with them. My youngest is 17mo. Since he also enjoys the outdoors he's still a pretty ... (Read More)frisky & probably will not respond well to little kids picking him up, pulling or tugging. If your kids can be gentle then he'll be a good match. He does allow me to pick him up. He really likes to chase & will even play catch with his toy! I wasn't going to ask a re-homing fee because he's not UTD on shots due to finances. This is part of the reason we're looking to re-home him. I WILL visit any potential new homes, get vet & personal references. He hasn't been around other animals & may need time to adjust. He loves to be in the middle of what's going on & is used to scratching on a post. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-12-10-00409Mia (female)

Maine Coon Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Mia is a 1 year old female kitten with a wonderful personality. She may have some Maine Coon mixed in, though we have no way of knowing for sure. She is a sweet girl and would be great in a home with other cats, a cat-friendly dog, and/or children. She loves being petted and is happy to just be around people. She has moderate energy and is ready to play when you are! She was rescued when she was about 6-8 weeks old and was very malnourished. She barely survived, but now she is healthy and loving life. She needs a home with people who are willing to keep her litter box very clean, as she will go outside of the box if it is not reasonably ... (Read More)clean. She has been returned once due to this issue, so we are looking for a forever home who will love and care for her regardless. She is a medium sized cat and is fully grown. She does need a lot of brushing/grooming, as she gets mats very easily. Mia is fully vetted (spayed, FIV/FeLV tested, UTD on vaccinations, and microchipped). If you think Mia may be the right fit for your home, please contact us. There will be an application, adoption fee, and contract. Please contact us with any questions or for more information! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-10-26-00420Leda (female)

Maine Coon Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Leda is approximately three to four years old and appears to be a mix breed with some Chartreuse, Maine Coon and/or Norwegian Forest. Leda appeared in my office parking lot last summer with a bedraggled black kitten. After feeding her for months, I was able to lure her and the kitten into my office as they played with a laser pointer. Leda was incredibly skinny despite being pregnant. The vet she saw did not believe she could have kittens given the age of her boy, Castor, but he took a look at her using imaging tech and saw three kittens. Leda ultimately gave birth to three kittens last August, one naturally, one with the assistance of ... (Read More)meds and the last via Caesarean section. She is definitely looking forward to some empty nest years. She is an absolute dear but a bit of an over-eater, which probably comes from having had to fend for herself and her kittens while outside. Leda does play with toys but she seems to prefer receiving attention over playing with toys. She makes great use of the various scratchers that are in the room with she and her brood. When possible I do like to receive a vet reference from potential adopters. If you are interested in providing this dear girl with the loving indoor-only home she deserves please feel free to contact me. (Less)

Maine Coon Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Vega appears to be Domestic Maine Coon mix. She is just over one year old. Vega appeared in my office parking lot last summer. She was about eight to ten weeks old at that time and very scared. It took a little while to earn her trust, but she us now an absolute dear. She is predominantly grey and white in color but she does have hints of creme on her face. Her markings are beautiful as are her big green eyes. She currently resides in my office with what I believe to be brothers and potential younger siblings. While Vega enjoys playing with toys, she prefers to receive love and give purrs. This big girl enjoys the scratcher toys and ... (Read More)condos that are located in her room as well as looking out the window. While she is on the reserved side she is a true dear. If possible I do like to receive vet references from potential adopters. If you are interested in becoming this great girl's guardian a providing her with a loving indoor home, please feel free to contact me. (Less)

Maine Coons often win the prize for Best Cat in cat shows. All Maine Coons are considered to be descended from cats in Maine. A popular myth states that Maine Coon Cats are half cat, half raccoon, however, this is not biologically possible. One legend says that Maine Coons are descended from pets belonging to Marie Antoinette, which she sent to America in anticipation of the French Revolution.
